Is there anything more adorable than infant garments like tiny socks, shoes, pants, and onesies? Whether you're purchasing them for your own baby or as a gift, the wide range of options can be overwhelming. With various types of onesies featuring zippers or snaps and a plethora of fabric choices, it's challenging to determine the ideal clothing for babies.

 In this article, we will provide our best advice and caution against common mistakes when shopping for baby clothes. When shopping for newborn baby clothing, it's advisable to be prepared to know what not to buy, otherwise, you will end up with a lot of unwanted pieces of baby clothes in your wardrobe and you can't deny the fact, baby clothes are more expensive than adults. It is strange but so true.

Mistakes to Avoid While Shopping for Your Newborn:

Buying too many newborn-sized clothes: Newborns grow quickly, and they may outgrow their newborn-sized clothes within a few weeks. It's wise to have a few newborn-sized outfits, but also invest in larger sizes like 0-3 months to accommodate their growth.

Ignoring comfort: Newborns have delicate and sensitive skin, so it's crucial to prioritize comfort when selecting clothing. Avoid clothing with rough seams, scratchy fabrics, or tight elastic bands that can cause discomfort or irritation. 

Neglecting practicality: While adorable outfits are tempting, don't forget about practicality. Opt for clothes with convenient features like snap buttons or zippers for easy diaper changes, as well as wide necklines to slip over your baby's head without hassle.

For more convenience, It is advisable to check whether baby jumpsuits or rompers have easy access to diaper change, otherwise, you will have to remove the full dress, and it will cause a lot of hassle for you and your little one.

Ignoring the stretch in clothes:  As a guide,  we dress our baby in the same number of layers we are wearing, plus one extra layer for warmth. Consider buying stretchable clothes if you are layering clothes. You don't want to restrict your child's movement.  Baby can not wear jackets indoors. Prefer cardigans/ jumpers without hoods, newborn spends the majority of their time laying, hood or cap attached to jackets cause discomfort. 

Glitter and Sequins: If you’re having a baby girl, you might be excited to buy all of the glitter and sequined clothing in sight. Although these frilly and feminine clothes are cute, they usually aren’t the most comfortable for babies. Glitter can rub off and irritate the skin and sequins can be scratchy and uncomfortable for babies. 

Disregarding fabric care requirements: Check the fabric care instructions before purchasing baby clothes. New parents often have limited time, so it's best to select machine-washable and easy-to-care-for fabrics to simplify laundry routines.

Forgetting about versatility: Babies tend to go through multiple outfit changes due to spit-ups, diaper leaks, and other messes. Opt for clothing items that are easy to mix and match, allowing for versatility and minimizing the need for frequent purchases.

It would be beneficial to purchase various pants and shirts for your newborn so that you can combine and alternate them, either wearing them together or swapping out one piece.

Overlooking safety considerations: Avoid clothing with small buttons, loose ribbons, or decorative elements that could pose a choking hazard. Additionally, ensure that clothing is flame-resistant and meets safety standards.

Choosing the wrong fabrics: The child possesses extremely sensitive skin, so it is advisable to prioritize cotton materials when selecting clothing items. It is crucial to examine the fabric composition before making any purchases, as polyester is unsuitable for newborns. Take care to ensure that cotton is the preferred fabric choice for their garments.
